  • In this Biblical Worldview episode, United Church of God president, Rick Shabi, comments on the controversy surrounding NFL kicker Harrison Butker, whose university commencement speech sparked national debate. Butker's advocacy for traditional values, including family and morality, led to backlash from media, fans, and even some church leaders.
    Rick Shabi explores the broader societal issues this incident highlights, such as the alarming decline in moral standards and the challenges of standing up for one's beliefs. Biblical references, such as "Truth is fallen in the street, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey" reflect the current state of affairs in America. Reflections on America's current path show the nation is on the road to destruction, and a return to God and biblical, foundational values is needed.
    Watch to gain insights into biblical views on the future and the role of faith in navigating uncertain times.

      Mr. Shabi is offering a continuing Bible study series on the book of Ezekiel. I think God is using that book to inspire him that the Church now needs to cry out as God's watchman! It seems to fit him!

    I heard his speech a few weeks ago and I didn't have a problem with it. If you want to get married and have kids and stay at home with them you can. If you don't and want a career you can do that. But if he's happy with his wife and family that's fine but don't bash people that do that and don't bash people that don't do that.

    as "they" go after chidren first..............these churches are closing down .
    Thank goodness for the Latin Mass, filled with children, babies, teenagers and young parents and more.........far more reverence

    Be careful people with any church group or beliefs and opinions this church has split off from Herbert w Armstrongs church and I have been told that there are over something like 400 splinter groups!! not telling anyone who to watch or what church to attend just saying be cautious and careful and when at all possible do your own research and Bible studies I think a lot of churches and speakers of church group s can have very good insights and be very smooth and seem very truthful
    ! Just pray that your not deceived always study for yourself

      It's not over 400 splinter groups anymore because of lot of these groups have crashed and burned over the years. I don't know how many are out there now. But you are right to pray and not be deceived and study for yourselves. I told people this when so many followed all of that stuff from WCG and walked away from it all.

      HI.
      We totally agree. Read your Bible and if you see something we are saying that is apart from the Bible, let us know. We are committed to the truth of the Bible and following Jesus Christ and His apostles, just as they lived, and just as true Christians are to do.

    I watched and listened through the entire commencement speech from Harrison Butker. Honestly, not the best one, not to my liking for a graduating class, but also not an incendiary one. Whatever harsh backlash he got is not deserved.
    That being said, it mostly felt like a platform for him to voice his views rather than connecting with the audience. I'm not a US citizen so perhaps I may lack a lot of the context behind this; I understand this university is Catholic-driven, and maybe the people present in that speech may have reacted more positively to him compared to people on the Internet and anywhere else where values are different.
    The part where he addresses the women..."Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, BUT I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world." It is not the craziest thing to say. Yes, eventually a lot of girls and young women will start thinking about who they'll marry, whether they're religious or not. However, I just think, and know from some of my female friends, that some women who desire such dreams will probably want that kind of life until they have achieved a certain status of success within their professional career because, well, getting married and staying married ain't cheap and nobody wants to venture into that life carelessly. There is A LOT of merit when a woman is able to be excel in her professional endeavors AND being a wife/homemaker. Even the Scripture teaches about a virtuous woman who "considers a field and buys it (a smart worker and negotiator), from her PROFITS she plants a vineyard...She makes linen garments and sells them" (she does projects on the side and makes a living too).
    I believe the intention behind his words were not to be offensive; I just think he could have worded some things differently. When you start recognizing something, such as him saying some women in the audience will go on to successful careers (something really good), and you follow that with a "but", you then negate anything you said prior to that. As I said earlier, it felt like he seized the chance to continue voicing his opinions because of the platform he has now, a platform "God has given him". Once again, not the best speech, but also not the most incendiary one.

      Honestly, I don't remember a word that was spoken at my high school or college graduations with the usual type remarks. Satan is at warp speed now trying to destroy the family and I'm thankful for Butker courageously fighting back.

    • @manu9d5
      @manu9d5 2 месяца назад

      @@Tom-w1n for sure it is commendable that he brings God and family into the forefront. As I stated previously, because it is a Catholic-driven university, his message was most likely well received there. And that is ok.
      As a Christian myself, though, I'm not entirely moved by his words because he said on more than one occasion how he currently has a platform that God gave him. And he alluded to that a couple times to the point where I feel it is just him perhaps bragging a bit about the attention he has. But he's a pro-football player so of course he's going to have a somewhat big platform no matter what.
      It just feels like a speech about him, and for him. And not a speech that would connect with me as a student about to graduate. I've heard better speeches than this one, with more profound lessons, even if they don't all mention God. But hey, that's just me.

    You didn't get Christ .... maybe showing humility is part of it ? Thats not why he washed the apostles feet ! The answer is :Jhn 13:10 (AFV) Jesus said to him, "The one who has been washed does not need to wash anything other than the feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all." : those who have been baptized are clean except there feet , foot washing is symbolic for getting yourself clean to accept Yeshua's sacrifice, its to be done before every pass over Yeshua says this : Jhn 13:14 (AFV) Therefore, if I, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also are duty-bound to wash one another's feet;
    If you do not do it before passover as Yeshua taught ? Jhn 13:8 (AFV) Peter said to Him, "You shall not wash my feet, not ever." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."
